The Ugly Truth About Writing Nobody Wants to Tell You

Photo by Bruno Guerrero on Unsplash

Writing is a game people often enjoy playing.

But writing could sometimes be so frustrating.

Writing can drain your soul. It can make you doubt your ability and question your decision to have chosen to be a writer.

When you write, you expect your words to resonate with your audience. You hope to touch their lives through your words. Your intention is to solve their problems.

But sometimes your words appear not to do any of these.

Because of this, you feel empty. You question your capacity as a writer.

You feel lost. You see yourself wallowing in a profession that makes you feel you’ve not been called to it.

What we’ve not been told?

Many of us haven’t been told that writing could be soul-crushing. That writing can sap our happiness.

When you sit down to write, you pour your thoughts and feelings on empty pages and expect them to lift souls, only for them to be of little or no effect could be so frustrating.

We’ve not been told that writing can take away our happiness. That our joy can disappear within a twinkle of an eye after publishing an article.

When you put in an honest effort into crafting an article, and in the end the article flops, you feel like a failure.

You ask yourself “is this writing thing for me?”

You feel unfit to be a writer. You question your talent. And you may consider your decision to be writer as a wrong decision.

Writing can ultimately dash our expectations.

Writing isn’t always rewarding. It comes with its own disappointments.
